Blink, a home security camera company, has been bought by Amazon. Blink made a brief announcement with few details about the transaction in which no financial details were disclosed.
Blink kicked off in 2014 with a boost from a successful $800,000 crowd-funding campaign. It’s battery operated, wire-free products became popular because they were easy to set up. Blink products are compatible with the Smart Home computer Amazon Echo.
“As one of their distributors, we already know customers love their home security cameras and monitoring systems,” Amazon wrote in a statement. “We’re excited to welcome their team and invent together on behalf of customers.”
As the e-commerce mega-giant pushes towards smart home hardware, which included the Amazon Cloud Cam in October. Blink could be what Amazon was looking for as it competes with the Google Nest, similar technology from the web giant.
For now, customers have been assured that nothing will change with regard to how Blink is used.
“If you own one of our systems, nothing changes for now. We’ll continue to operate under the Amazon umbrella selling and supporting the same great products you know and love. It’s Day 1 for us at Amazon, and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can deliver to our customers together.”
