Alexa Business is poised to disrupt offices workflows for greater convenience over the course of the coming year.
The Smart Home computer designed to make everyday life more convenient would be repurposed with an eye to scheduling, communication, and greater efficiency in the workplace.
Commands such as…
- “Alexa, begin my conference call,”
- “Alexa, remind me of when my next meeting is,”
- “Alexa, schedule this room for a conference at 1pm and send everyone a notification,”
…could all become a commonplace part of office life in 2018. Alexa for Business, a Smart Office computer, enters a crowded field of digital assistants that includes Google’s Assistant and Microsoft’s Cortana.
Amazon’s CTO explained how extending voice activated tech to work life was a natural expansion on home devices in a keynote about the tool. He suggested that all the current devices used to connect remote offices and set up conference calls are complicated and unreliable even now, resulting in late meetings and embarrassing technical failures.
Alexa for Business wants to offer services that include, in addition to cloud connection:
- Skills specific to companies
- Dialing into conference calls automatically
- Administrative assistance
- Provisioning and management of devices
- Conference room settings
- User management
- Skill groups
Alexa for Business would link into Amazon Web Services (AWS) a comprehensive evolving cloud of functions and features. This will give it another dimension of competition against Google’s digital assistant, which offers the convenience of being linked into G Suite. Deciding which system to use and why will present business owners and entrepreneurs with new challenges and opportunities in the coming years.
